Chow has been serving bold, modern Asian cuisine in Wellington for over 20 years. We are a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant with a reputation for fresh flavours, shared dining, and a lively atmosphere.

We are seeking a Head Chef to manage our kitchen team and continue delivering high-quality Asian-inspired dishes to our guests.

The Role

As Head Chef, you will oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, supervise staff, and ensure food quality and consistency remain at the highest standard. You will also contribute your knowledge of Asian cuisine and kitchen management to maintain and develop menus that reflect Chow’s style.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and supervise all kitchen staff, including Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, and Kitchenhands.

Develop, write, and cost recipes and menus with a focus on Asian flavours.

Ensure food quality, presentation, and portion standards are maintained.

Oversee stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships.

Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety requirements.

Train, mentor, and support junior kitchen team members.

Monitor and help manage food and labour costs.

Work collaboratively with the front of house team to ensure a seamless guest experience.

Skills & Experience Required

At least 3 years’ experience managing a kitchen.

Strong background in Asian cuisine.

Knowledge of menu planning, food costing, and stock control.

Excellent understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene.

Leadership ability with proven skills in training and motivating staff.

Organised, reliable, and able to perform under pressure.

What We Offer

Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Full-time, permanent role in one of Wellington’s most established restaurants.
