Sous Chef & Chef de Partie – The Cust Pub
The Cust Pub is a newly renovated, food-focused country gastro pub, and we’re looking for a Sous Chef and a Chef de Partie to join our growing kitchen team.
These are hands-on roles suited to chefs who genuinely love great, fresh food, take pride in where it comes from, and want to be part of a kitchen built on quality, care, and community.
The Roles
Working alongside the Head Chef and owner, you will be part of a professional kitchen responsible for:- delivering consistently high-quality, well-executed food
- cooking with fresh, seasonal produce, sourced and grown locally wherever possible
- running sections efficiently and supporting smooth service
- maintaining exceptional standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety as a core part of daily operations
- contributing to prep, stock control, and day-to-day kitchen systems
- helping build and protect a positive, professional team culture
The Sous Chef role will also include leading on shift, supporting and mentoring the team, assisting with ordering, and contributing to menu development and kitchen systems.
About You
These roles will suit people who:- truly care about food — its quality, sourcing, and how it’s prepared
- have solid kitchen experience (Sous Chef or Chef de Partie level, or a strong Commis ready to step up)
- are organised, reliable, and calm under pressure
- understand that hygiene and cleanliness are non-negotiable and part of everyday pride
- enjoy working as part of a close, supportive team
- are legally entitled to work in New Zealand
