  • Kōrero mō te Tūranga As a Communications Centre Officer, you will support MPI's operational activities by monitoring the safety of MPI staff in the field and providing real-time information to them to inform them as they assist and enforce all relevant legislation and regulations across New Zealand.The Casual role is to backfill full time staff absent on programmed leave or short term illness.
While this role is for casual employment, you must be able to commit to a six week period of full time (Monday to Friday) paid training at Porirua in the May/June period.The key priorities for this role include:Planning and executing responses to requests for assistance or emergencies.Recording and analysing malfunctions with commercial fishing digital monitoring equipment and making a recommendation for a directive to be issued to either allow fishing to continue or for the affected fishing entity to stop fishing.Supporting wider operations and responses through the delivery of information, reporting on activities and risks on the ground and coordinating support to critical incidents as required.Responding to fishing legislation and accurately answering questions from members of the public on commercial, recreational and customary rules.
About You
  • Mōu We are looking for a strong communicator who is effective at building and maintaining strong relationships with internal staff as well as external stakeholders.
You will also bring:Operations Room/Contact Centre/Call Centre or relevant customer service experience Ability to work in a busy environment and remain calm under pressureYou will be a keen team player and demonstrate empathy to callers while not compromising Ministry positions.Strong PC skills including ability to type at least 40 words per minute Radio communications experience is highly desirable Operations Room experience is also highly desirableAbility to work a 7 day rotating roster About the Team
  • Mō tō mātou RōpūThis role reports to the Team Leader National Communication Centre and you will be part of a team of other Communication Centre Officers and Digital Montioring Operators.The National Communications Centre (NCC) provides critical support to a wide range of MPI staff, primarily staff who are deployed in the field.
They coordinate assistance and support to staff in vulnerable situations from both MPI and other agencies.Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand's borders.

Along with preparing for and responding to biosecurity incursions, it also manages border and compliance activities, diagnostics and surveillance activities and MPI's centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group.
