About the RoleWe are seeking an Emergency Medicine (ED) Registrar to join our Emergency Department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Our department is accredited as a tier 2 non-major referral site for training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), offering 24 months of ED training. You'll benefit from a structured teaching program with abundant learning opportunities, setting you up for success in your Emergency Medicine career.

For ACEM trainees, refer to the separate advertisement offering additional rotation options.About the Team/Service/ LocationThe successful candidate would join a team of 16 Emergency Medicine Physicians, 1 Medical Officer, 15 Registrars, 8 House Officers and 4 Nurse Practitioners.

Our Emergency Department handles around 50,000 attendances per year, with a 30% admission rate. The general patient acuity is high, with a significant volume of major trauma cases. We operate four observation unit beds, providing care for a wide range of conditions.

Registrars enjoy many opportunities to undertake procedures and lead resuscitations in the emergency department.

Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400-bed secondary level public hospital in Hastings, serving a population of over 180,000 people. We offer both acute and elective care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics, obstetrics gynaecology, and more.

Although we don't provide cardiothoracic and neurosurgery, we are supported by a strong regional ICU team, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.

  • You're a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) PGY3 or above, ideally with at least 6 months of experience working in an Emergency Department at a Registrar level
  • You are registered or eligible for general registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
