Cellar Door Manager - Central Otago - 12-month Fixed Term

We’re looking for an experienced, innovative, energetic, and responsible Cellar Door Manager to join our Brand Home Leadership Team on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.
As a leader at Cloudy Bay you will bring your proven ability to motivate and drive people, setting the tone for the team, lead by example and develop strategies to achieve goals. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to share your passion for hospitality and crafting memorable customer experiences to ensure a seamless and outstanding Brand Experience to all visitors of The Shed, our Central Otago Visitor Centre.Thanks to your team leadership skills you will support the Visitor Centre’s staff in developing our offerings and converting local and international visitors into ambassadors of Cloudy Bay.
Although good wine knowledge is desirable, more emphasis will be placed upon organizational skills, customer service, sales ability and staff management skills. The ability to multitask is essential.
Our Visitor Centre (VC) is open five days a week Wednesday-Sunday, so successful applicants will need to be available to work weekends and public holidays.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Setting and maintaining an outstanding level of Visitor Center (VC) customer service to all visitors. Lead by example, demonstrating best practice service at all times
- Day to day management of Cellar Door and restaurant front of house operations
- Manage the VC roster and ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times in line with budgets
- Organise and supervise shifts
- Managing, coaching and constantly developing the VC team to keep their motivation and performance at the highest level
- Maintaining a positive, open and productive team dynamic and work culture within the VC team thanks to clear communication and a goal-setting approach
- Support our health and safety team to manage and implement our company health and safety operational requirements by taking on the H&S Representative responsibilities
- Support the achievement of the department financial KPI’s
- Handle safely and securely all cash and assist with the security of the building and assets
- As required, provide sales updates on a weekly, monthly and or annual basis
- Coordination of events
- Focus on continual improvement
- High attention to detail
- Maintain, update, and ensure all VC staff are trained and work within the guidelines of the NZ Food Control Plan (VC kitchen)
- NZ Managers Certificate
- NZ Residency or a valid NZ work visa
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a similar role, supervising staff and overseeing Cellar Door or Restaurant operations
- Solid operational capabilities across all functions of the Cellar Door, including retail, tasting counter, event and a restaurant / bar
- At all times, adopt a ‘can do’ approach to servicing our customers and maximizing the experience and sales
- Strong passion for wine, food, and hospitality a priority
- Knowledge of best practices in all areas of service, sales and wine
- Lead by example management style, very hands on and operational
- Strong leadership and team building skills to develop a positive team climate, ability to motivate and enthuse team members
- Flexible - able to work at weekends, holidays and the extra hours when required.
- Proficient on Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Languages: Excellent English compulsory, strong written English required. Secondary language would be beneficial, but not required
