Japanese Restaurant Chain Area Manager
JOB SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION:
St Pierre’s Area Manager is responsible for assisting senior management in planning company-wide strategies and their implementation, as well as mentoring and assisting Store Managers and Department Managers in their respective establishment( store, department ) to achieve their Key Performance Indicators ( KPIs).This includes maintaining and achieving the highest level of sales goals, quality and store standards, people growth and customer service standards for their stores and departments, as well as implementing the company’s policies and goals, leading to the company achieving its future goals and targets.
Each Area Manager is responsible for the performance of a given set of stores (at present, up to 15 stores) in addition to Partner establishments. These are preferably within a specific geographical and business area to minimise travel, but the proximity is not always guaranteed.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MONITORING KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)Monitoring Store Managers and Department Managers and the KPIs of their stores and departments in the following aspects;
Average sales and individual sales growth
Average wage cost
Average food cost
Employee (St. Pierres Associates) management
Customer experience
Food Safety compliance ; Reporting the performance of Store Managers and Department Managers to senior management and discussing how to improve their performance with them; Assisting Store Managers and Department managers for smoother operation;
PROVIDING ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
Mentoring Store Managers and Department Managers in developing KPIs and budgets for their respective store or department based on the half-yearly Store Evaluation Programme and periodic site visits; Each store must be evaluated under the Store Evaluation Program every six months, with the report submitted to the Head Office.
Under the Store Evaluation program, the goal is to improve all areas of operation from Quality, Service, Cleanliness, Food Safety Program and all operations under the system; Assisting Store Managers and Department Managers in implementing the company-wide strategies in their respective stores or departments; Assisting Store Managers and Department Managers in achieving their KPIs independently; Mentoring Store Managers and Department Managers, and assisting them in improving their operations; Assisting Store Managers and Department Managers in reviewing day-to-day operational procedures; Identifying resource management issues across their respective area through interviews with Store Managers and Department Managers and periodical site visits; Analysing the issues across their respective area and reporting to senior management ; Mentoring and assisting new Store Managers and Department Managers in preparing financial reports and budgets;
STAFF MANAGEMENT
Staff management is an important area to identify new talent capable of being future Store Managers and Department Managers in the Company. Area Managers must know;Managers and Assistant Managers very well, and maintain good relationships with them; The majority of the team members in their stores ; Potential new talent with strong opportunities for growth; As such, you are to help, encourage, and motivate our Store Managers and Department Managers and support them in developing their store talent.
Selecting staff for the special training; Moving different between stores in your respective area, as agreed by staff and by ManagersDeveloping the management skills of current Store Managers and Department Managers; Recommending Store Manager and Department Manager candidates to senior management; Providing Store Manager and Department Manager candidates an opportunity to upskill their management skills;
BUSINESS STAKEHOLDER LIAISON
Representing the company for their responsible area and negotiating with business stakeholders on behalf of senior management as and when required;SALES PROMOTIONS
Organising local promotions and events with Store Managers or Department Managers as needed;
QUALITY CONTROL
Regularly check the quality of products and services provided, and advise Store and Department Managers to maintain and improve the quality;
COMPLIANCE WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS
As such, Area Managers are to help, encourage, and motivate our Store Managers and Department Managers and support them in complying with the health and safety regulations.
Ensure that your stores comply with occupational health and safety regulations; Implement monthly food safety programme audit and help the program get up and running to comply with local regulations;REPORTING
Report the activities of stores and departments to support senior management decision-making;
TROUBLESHOOTING
Being available to spend more time as required to resolve issues in stores experiencing problems related to sales, people, or financial performance;
SETTING UP NEW ESTABLISHMENTS
In launching a new store or department, the Area Manager may organise any meetings relevant to the success, training and improvement of stores within the area of responsibility, and require relevant staff to attend, such as refresher courses, Assistant Manager refresher courses, training sessions, etc.with Store Managers and Department Managers in line with the training budget allocated to the Area Manager.
Selecting Store or Department Managers; Checking all operational and administrative procedures before launching a new store; Setting up Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on factors, such as demographics, income levels, proximity to residential areas, and characteristics of the area where the stores are located; Assisting Store Managers and Department Managers in launching and operating new stores and departments; Assist new stores in your area as well as make decisions on staffing, including recommendations for management positions;OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
TRAVEL
As Area Manager may be responsible for an outside Auckland region (Wellington/South Island/Partners), you are expected to travel to the assigned areas at least one three-day visit per fortnight.
Working hours do NOT include the time to travel by air, including waiting for flights, but includes travel by car.
WORK TIME & TIME EXPENDITUREArea Managers are required to work for a minimum of 43 hours a week.
You may be required to work
for a minimum of five days a week;on call on weekends in case of emergency.
As this is an active role, you are expected to spend approximately 80% of your time in the area and 20% at Head Office for administrative tasks. In the normal practice, this includes working in stores and departments to provide support, with one day at Head Office for meetings and administrative duties.
MEETINGS
The Area Manager must attend the following meetings:
Weekly sales and performance analysis; Bonus Meetings held at the store level in his/her area; Monthly Managers Meeting; Biweekly operations meeting; Annual Conferences and any other meetings required;ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of verifiable, relevant work experience or qualification in business or management equivalent to or higher than a New Zealand diploma; Willingness to work in a food handling operationKnowledge of St Pierre’s Operation (additional on-site training may be offered if an applicant does not have work Manager-level experience or higher within St Pierre's stores or departments); Good command of English; Practical knowledge of Human Resources and Operations Management is a must; Training and team building skills; Strong oral and written communication skills; The successful applicants will have an outgoing personality, some knowledge of Japanese food, be well-presented and enjoy being kept busy in our quick-service Japanese restaurant/takeout store
