Chef and Restaurant Manager

Position 1: Chef (Full-time, Permanent)Location: BNZ Centre, Christchurch City Centre
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, rostered shifts including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
Pay Rate: $26.50 - $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.

About the Role:We are seeking an experienced Chef to join our busy kitchen team. You will be responsible for preparing high-quality Japanese dishes and supporting the smooth running of our kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes to a high standard.
- Ensure all food meets our standards for freshness, quality, and presentation.
- Maintain strict compliance with all Health, Safety, and Food Safety regulations and practices.
- Assist the Head Chef with stock management, including receiving orders and stock rotation.
- Contribute to a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
- Proven ability to cook consistently to a high standard under pressure.
- Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety practices (a relevant certificate is an advantage).
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Flexibility to work a roster covering early mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Specific experience in preparing Japanese cuisine.
- Formal culinary qualification (NZQF Level 4 or equivalent).

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time (Minimum 30 hours per week, with actual hours as per roster).
Pay Rate: $29.66 - $34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Business:Hachi Hachi Rolleston is a well-established Japanese restaurant located at Rolleston Square. We are seeking a motivated and professional Restaurant Manager to lead the team and uphold our reputation for excellent food and service.
About the Role:You will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the restaurant, leading the front-of-house team, ensuring financial targets are met, and delivering an outstanding guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring high service standards and smooth running.
- Lead, train, and motivate the front-of-house team across all services.
- Liaise closely with the Head Chef to ensure seamless kitchen and floor coordination.
- Manage stock control, including ordering and conducting monthly stocktakes.
- Control daily costs and maintain tight expense management.
- Prepare weekly staff rosters within the labour budget and manage staff leave.
- Attend and contribute to weekly management meetings in Christchurch city centre.
- Prepare and analyse performance and sales reports.
- Liaise with council, suppliers, and handle customer feedback professionally.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in restaurant management.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, train, and develop a team.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, rostering, cost control, and basic reporting (sales, wages).
- A current Duty Manager Certificate and a solid understanding of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
- Basic knowledge of relevant NZ employment laws, including the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the Holidays Act 2003.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
