We're working with our client to find a standout Sous Chef to take a hands-on leadership role in an exciting kitchen specialising in fresh, bold, flavour-driven seafood and modern New Zealand cuisine.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a vibrant and exciting team based out in Penrose - managing daily kitchen operations, leading a skilled team, and ensuring every plate leaves the pass at the highest standard. While you'll report to an experienced Executive Chef, you'll be trusted to run the kitchen day-to-day, balancing creativity with operational excellence.
The role:
- Oversee and manage the kitchen's daily operations with precision
- Lead, train, and motivate the kitchen team to perform at their best
- Manage ordering, supplier relationships, and stock rotation
- Monitor and control food costs and wage budgets to meet targets
- Uphold top-tier food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menus and specials to ensure consistency and quality
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef, or a Senior CDP ready to step up
- Strong understanding of kitchen financials, including cost control and rostering
- A passion for seafood and a commitment to quality
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Calm under pressure, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving
