Civil Utilities Foreman / Operator

placeQueenstown calendar_month

Atlas Group is a civil construction company, specialising in Utilities across Drainage and Water, Power and Gas Infrastructure, Structural Foundation and Retaining Works, and Traffic Management. We’re known for our practical expertise, safety-first mindset, and team-focused culture — delivering quality outcomes across the South Island.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a hands-on Civil Utilities Foreman / Operator based in the Central Otago region. This is a role combining operational responsibility with site leadership. You’ll lead small crews on utility works projects — including trenching and civil construction work mainly involving Drainage and Water, and Power.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operator ready to step into a leadership role, or a Foreman who’s still keen to be on the tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and work alongside a small civil crew on trenching and utility installation
  • Operate plant and equipment including excavators, trucks, and loaders
  • Deliver projects in road corridors, council works, and private development sites
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and subcontractors to keep works running smoothly
  • Promote a strong culture of site safety, quality workmanship, and team performance
  • Assist with site setup, planning, and day-to-day problem-solving
What We Offer:
  • Full-time role with long-term local projects in the Central Otago and Queenstown lakes regions
  • Varied and hands-on role across trenching, utilities, and structural works
  • Support from a growing team with training and leadership development
  • PPE gear supplied and competitive remuneration based on experience
  • Opportunity to be part of a tight-knit, high-performing civil team
About You:

You’re a natural leader who brings a strong civil background — especially in utility trenching and small crew management. You’re confident making site decisions, love being on the tools, and always lead by example when it comes to safety and work ethic.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Proven experience in utilities trenching (Drainage and Water, Power, Site Works)
  • Comfortable working in road corridors and near live services
  • Experience operating excavators (1.7t – 20t) and other civil machinery
  • WTR license required, Class 2 or 4 license preferred
  • Strong understanding of site safety, service plans, and reinstatement standards
  • Reliable communicator, team builder, and adaptable problem solver
  • A Civil Carpentry skillset is a bonus

If this is you, please send through your CV. Feel free to call for a chat about the role!
