Type of work & hours: Full-time, permanent (apprenticeship).

Minimum guaranteed hours: 32 hours per week (typical range 38–45 hours).

Standard hours of work
Monday–Thursday 8.00am – 5.00pm
Friday 8.00am – 4.00pm

Overtime may be required from time to time to meet project deadlines.

Pay rates: $25 - $35 per hour (NZD), depending on candidate experience and capability or apprenticeship year.

The Role

Working and studying as part of an apprenticeship to develop competence in general carpentry across residential new builds and renovations. You will learn to deliver high-quality work safely and efficiently, support the wider site team, and contribute to an excellent client experience.

Provide general carpentry labour and complete allocated tasks under supervision, in accordance with plans, specifications and company standards, in a safe and timely manner.

Key responsibilities
  • Follow direction from Leading Carpenters / Foreman on site and ask questions to clarify scope and quality expectations.
  • Learn to safely use and maintain hand and power tools (and use tools only where trained/authorised).
  • Maintain company tools / plant to a high standard and report faults or hazards immediately.
  • Keep a safe and tidy work area, including daily clean-up, waste sorting and basic site set-up.
  • Health & Safety is a top priority: wear PPE, follow site rules, participate in toolbox talks and complete required site documentation.
  • Work productively while maintaining quality; take pride in workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Reliable timekeeping and punctuality.
  • Wear company uniform in good condition and maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Actively participate in apprenticeship training (on-job and off-job), complete coursework, and maintain training records as required.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, subcontractors, clients and consultants.
  • Represent the company professionally and uphold the company values: QUALITY, INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE.
Tasks Include:
  • Site set-up and pack-down, material handling, keeping the site organised.
  • Assist with set-out, profiles, levels and measurements under supervision.
  • Framing and structural carpentry support (walls, floors, trusses/rafters) where trained and directed.
  • Install building wrap, battens and exterior cladding support tasks.
  • Interior fit-out support: linings preparation, panelling, sarking, doors, skirtings/architraves and hardware (as skills develop).
  • Demolition, protection, propping and temporary works under supervision and in accordance with safe work methods.
  • Basic concreting/formwork assistance, fixings and bracing as required.
  • General carpentry and labouring tasks as directed by the Foreman/Leading Carpenter.
Minimum requirements
  • Enrolled in (or willing to enrol in) a recognised carpentry apprenticeship programme.
  • Genuine interest in building and a willingness to learn, take feedback and improve.
  • Basic hand-tool familiarity and the ability to learn safe use of power tools (training provided).
  • Good fitness for manual work and the ability to work outdoors in varied conditions.
  • Reliable transport to get to site and a valid NZ driver license (restricted or full) preferred.
  • Able to work in New Zealand and pass any pre-employment checks required by the company.
  • Commitment to Health & Safety, including consistent PPE use.
