About the RoleAs part of the Haematology CNS team, you will apply your advanced nursing expertise to the care of patients with complex malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. You will work alongside a dedicated and supportive team of Consultant Haematologists and other Senior Nursing staff.
This role will have a focus on patients with chronic haematological conditions:Cancers eg myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), Myelofibrosis, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and other low-grade lymphoproliferative disorders.Autoimmune conditions eg immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), autoimmune haematolytic anaemia (AIHA), aplastic anaemia.Congenital disorders eg haemoglobinopathies.The successful candidate will support the implementation of local and national initiatives, and develop strong relationships within Health NZ, Te Whatu Ora, Waikato Key Responsibilities of the roleDeliver advanced, evidence-based nursing care across inpatient and outpatient haematology settings.Provide support and care coordination for patients with a haematological condition as they navigate the health system, from the point of diagnosis, through treatment and follow-up.Facilitate patient and whanau education regarding their haematological diagnosis / condition and treatments proposed by senior medical clinicians.Be a direct point of contact for patients and their whanau regarding issues relevant to their haematological condition.Undertake nurse-lead follow-up clinics in Waikato Hospital, under the supervision of a consultant Haematologist.Support and contribute to relevant quality initiatives that improve patient care / outcomes and service development.Engage in research opportunities relevant to haematology.Act as a clinical resource and role model for inpatient and outpatient nursing, allied health staff and junior medical staff.Participate in ongoing professional development in haematology care.

About the ServiceHaematology is a dynamic and specialised field of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis and management of diseases and conditions involving the blood, bone marrow and lymphoid tissues.At Waikato Hospital, our Haematology service provides comprehensive care for patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions, inclusive of thrombotic and bleeding disorders. Our multi-disciplinary team delivers care across inpatient, outpatient and day-stay settings.
We incorporate diverse treatments to advanced patient care outcomes, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, autologous stem cell transplantation and supportive care.
