We’re looking for a talented Sous Chef to join our kitchen team at The Grand Hotel. Reporting directly to the Head Chef, this role is your chance to develop your skills, support a passionate team, and work in one of New Zealand’s most stunning coastal towns.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 1 May 2026, with the potential to extend to a permanent full-time role beyond that date. You’ll be guaranteed a minimum of 30–35 hours per week.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting the Head Chef and working closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Collaborating with the front-of-house team to deliver a seamless guest experience.
- Ensuring high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and equipment care.
- Stepping up when challenges arise, keeping calm under pressure, and pitching in wherever needed to keep the kitchen moving.
- At least 2 years of culinary experience, with a passion for creating memorable dining experiences.
- A self-motivated, dependable team player with strong initiative.
- Flexible, adaptable, and happy to jump in and help out wherever the team needs.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- Strong organisation, time management, and attention to detail.
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays.
- Guaranteed 30–35 hours per week, with potential for more during peak periods.
- Full menu training provided to gear up for summer.
- Fixed-term until 1 May 2026, with the opportunity to move into a permanent role.
