Purpose of the Role

To lead and manage the evening dinner takeaway service for Utopia Cafe’s Asian bowl takeaway operation, with a focus on Chinese-style stir-fries and wok-cooked meals. The Chef is responsible for the quality, consistency, and presentation of all dinner dishes, and ensures efficient kitchen operations during the evening shift.

• Oversee and manage the dinner kitchen operation independently
• Prepare and cook authentic Asian-style dishes, particularly Chinese stir-fries and noodle-based meals
• Develop and maintain recipes and presentation standards in line with the dinner menu
• Ensure high food quality, taste, and consistency during service
• Manage kitchen prep, food storage, and inventory for the dinner shift
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen in accordance with food safety regulations
• Minimise waste and manage food cost efficiently
• Assist in training and supervising any evening kitchen assistants or junior staff
• Communicate any operational issues, equipment needs, or supply shortages to the owner
• Uphold and model Utopia Cafe’s values and commitment to quality homemade food

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Asian/Chinese commercial cooking
• Proven expertise in wok techniques and high-heat cooking methods
• Good command of English – must be able to read and follow recipes, food safety procedures, and communicate with team
• Ability to speak Mandarin or Cantonese is an advantage
• Strong knife skills and efficiency in a fast-paced kitchen
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand

$23.50 – $26.00 per hour, depending on experience and work ethic.
