Arawa Street Early Learning Centre, based in New Lynn, Auckland, is a long-established and well-recognised centre within the local community, with many team members who have been in the service for over five years. Our teaching practice is guided by Te Whariki and influenced by Reggio Emilia philosophy, with a focus on reflective teaching, inquiry-based learning, and continuous development of quality practice.
As a centre, we are currently strengthening and further developing aspects of our teaching and leadership practice, and we are committed to lifting consistency and pedagogical depth across the service.
The Role
We are seeking a qualified ECE teacher who is either already experienced in a Team Leader role or is a strong, capable teacher ready to step up into a Team Leader position.
This is a full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week) supporting curriculum leadership, mentoring teachers, and contributing to ongoing quality improvement across the centre.
A strong candidate for this role will bring experience or capability in Reggio Emilia–influenced or inquiry-based practice, participation in Professional Growth Cycle (PGC) processes, involvement in internal evaluation, and strong knowledge of compliance and licensing requirements.These skills will support the development of leadership capability within the team and contribute to strengthening teaching and learning outcomes across the service.
This role is an important step in building leadership capacity within a well-established centre.
Key Responsibilities- Support the implementation of curriculum aligned with Te Whariki and centre philosophy
- Contribute to strengthening Reggio Emilia–inspired and inquiry-based practice across the team
- Provide day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and support to teachers
- Actively participate in Professional Growth Cycle (PGC) processes
- Support internal evaluation and reflective practice to lift quality outcomes
- Contribute to planning, assessment, and documentation systems
- Ensure strong understanding and application of compliance and licensing requirements
- Build positive and professional relationships with tamariki, whanau, and staff
- Support consistency and continuous improvement across teaching practice
About You
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- A recognised ECE teaching qualification
- Current or provisional registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an ECE teaching role with readiness to step into leadership
- Experience working within a Reggio Emilia–influenced or inquiry-based learning environment
- Experience participating in Professional Growth Cycle (PGC) processes
- Experience supporting or contributing to internal evaluation processes
- Strong understanding of Te Whariki and Kowhiti Whakapae
- Strong knowledge of compliance and licensing requirements
- Confidence and willingness to mentor and support other teachers
- Strong communication, reflection, and organisational skills
