Auckland - Street Light Line Mechanic/Technician

Traffica are looking for Experienced and Proven Line Mechanics, that can roll up their sleeves and get the job done.

You will be supported by the inhouse Team : , Traffic Management, Signal Technicians, Truck Drivers, Mechanics and on the Job Foremans /Supervisors and you will have access to new Plant and well maintained Vehicles to assit every step of the way.

Working across the southern network you will be responsible for :

Carry out installation, maintenance, and fault response for street lighting assets, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and client standards. This includes working at heights, on electrical infrastructure, and in public road environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair street lighting networks including poles, luminaires, control gear, and underground cabling.
  • Respond to fault reports and conduct repairs in a timely and safe manner.
  • Carry out routine inspections and preventative maintenance of street lighting assets.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and company safety systems.
  • Operate and maintain mobile plant such as EWP (Elevated Work Platforms) and crane trucks.
  • Accurately complete job records, fault logs, and asset data updates (e.g., RAMM or SLV systems).
  • Liaise with traffic management personnel and work safely in live traffic environments.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, planners, and project managers to meet deadlines and client expectations.
  • Report defects or potential risks in the network to supervisors for action.

Health & Safety
  • Follow all safety procedures including working at heights, PPE use, and site hazard management.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Adhere to permit-to-work and electrical isolation procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:
  • NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) or equivalent
  • EWRB Line Mechanic Registration Level 4
  • Full NZ Driver’s License (Class 1 & 2 desirable)
  • EWP & Crane Certification
  • First Aid and CPR certified (training or updating provided )
  • 2 Years Experience in street lighting or distribution networks
  • Strong understanding of electrical and civil standards related to street lighting
Desirable:
  • TTM (TMO) or CAT AB P or NP Qualification (Training provided )
  • Working knowledge of asset management systems like RAMM, SLV, or GIS
  • HT license, crane tickets or other utility-related endorsements
