Chef
Chef required for a very busy inner city Italian restaurant. Nicolini’s has offered a great Italian dining experience to its guests since first opening our doors in Wellington in 1997. Show casing authentic Italian cuisine meals, partnered with an extensive wine list focusing on Italian wines,all within a purposefully made rustic interior.
Our mission at Nicolini’s has been to bring age old recipes to the local community using local produce and imported ingredients, maintaining the authenticity of our age-old recipes.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a talented Chef to work with us.
Main duties of the Chef:
- In charge of food preparation and duties based on outstanding cooking techniques and deliver the best dishes set by the restaurant.
- Plan menus and create recipes based on seasonal ingredients and customer demands accordingly.
- Portion food, placing on plates or takeaway boxes and adding gravies and sauces.
- Ensure quality of food are always delivered at the highest standard and present to customers in a timely manner.
- Assist Head Chef/Manager by checking food stocks and place order with suppliers.
- Report to Head Chef and coordinate matters with Head Chef/Manager.
- Teach and supervise kitchen junior staffs the cooking procedures by using your cooking knowledge and experience if needed.
- Prepare dietary food to meet the customer’s special needs.
- Keep kitchen tidy and clean and strictly comply with NZ health and hygiene regulations.
- Check temperatures of frozen and hot food and storing them under right temperatures.
Ideal candidates will have the following:
- A minimum of 2 years relevant experience or a level 4 or above relevant qualification.
- Previous experience in a high-volume, well recognized Restaurant and comfortable in dealing with high-expectation clientele.
- Extensive all round food knowledge in all areas of the kitchen including pastry/bakery, pastas
- Extensive making skills of Italian dishes such as bread, cakes, pastas, soups, sauces, meats,profiteroles & tiramisu.
- Excellent knife skills, with the ability to multitask.
- This is a family restaurant so you will be required to help the kitchen-hand including general cleaning duties such as dishes, sweeping and mopping.

- We offer a competitive hourly rate from $27 to $35.
- The hours will be full-time from Tuesdays to Saturday. Weekly hours will be at least 40 hours and maximum 50 hours.
