Commis chef/cook - Amberley
We are looking for an experienced Cook, a Commis chef, or perhaps a Chef de Partie, or Baker to fill positions in the busy tourist town of Hanmer Springs. Previous commercial kitchen experience is necessary.
These are full-time, seasonal or permanent positions. Start soon and stay until at least the end of February 2026. We will assist you to get accommodation. Longer would be great. Permanent would be even better.
Hanmer Springs is a busy alpine, outdoor adventure, and thermal pools tourist resort, 130 kms north of Christchurch in the beautiful South Island. To be successful in these roles, you will have an interest in food and have had previous experience working in a commercial kitchen. You will need to be able to learn and think on your feet, multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment.Most importantly, you need to be a team player.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the chef with day-to-day tasks in the kitchen
- Preparing ingredients and food, as well as chopping vegetables/meat etc
- Cooking food to order, a la carte or fast food (hamburgers)
- Managing the cold larder and using the grill and deep fryer
- Supporting the chef with events and functions
- If you can bake, cooking muffins, pies etc.
- General kitchen duties, including workstations etc.
