Chinese Cuisine Chefs

We are seeking experienced Chefs to join our team at Madam Kwong’s Restaurant, a long-standing and well-regarded Chinese restaurant located in Christchurch. We have proudly served our community with authentic cuisine for many years.

For the right people we offer:

• $29.70 - $33.00 an hour depending on experience and attitude.
• Minimum 40 hours per week.
• Permanent position.

• Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Able to prepare a wide range of Chinese dishes.
• Must be able to cook using Chinese style gas hob and wok.
• Ensure excellent presentation of meals to customers.
• Have experience following menus, stock taking, and stock ordering from suppliers.
• Must have the knowledge of food ingredients to manage customer's queries and complaints.
• Able to handle a high-pressure work environment at peak times.
• Able to follow instructions from owners, managers and senior kitchen staff.
• Able to complete Food Control Plan documentation independently.
• Available for weekend and public holidays rostered shifts.
• Able to work late night hours - up to 2am.
• Able to provide written reference for the reference check.

• Prepare and cook dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s established menu and standards.
• Plan and develop menus in consultation with management and accurately forecast food costs.
• Order and maintain adequate stock of food supplies and kitchen essentials.
• Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to kitchen staff as needed.
• Coordinate with management to resolve any kitchen or customer-related issues.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory, food supplies, and kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitise the kitchen and work areas regularly, ensuring compliance with health and hygiene standards.
