Location: Matamata, Waikato

Markos is a well-established Italian restaurant in the heart of Matamata that has been in operation for over 10 years. We are currently looking for keen, enthusiastic, energetic and experienced chefs to join our team. These positions are full time(usually 40-55 hours per week with a guarantee of 30 hours per week) and permanent.

Hours of

work 7.00am – 12am Monday to Sunday including Public Holidays. Hourly wage $30-45/hour. We are a busy establishment with an interesting menu therefore good knowledge and

experience is essential.

Your duties will include:
  1. Lead by example and motivate the kitchen team to maintain a consistent high performing work
culture.
  1. Network to achieve industry recognition for the venue.
  2. Working with owners and management and taking on their knowledge and feedback.
  3. Creating and executing a training and development plan for kitchen staff – keeping them
inspired and motivated to gain knowledge and learn.
  1. Managing the kitchen team rosters adhering to budgets.
  2. Assisting owners and management with hiring kitchen talent.
  3. Staying ahead of the game by creating, planning and executing innovative food ideas and menu
which will further elevate our brand and reputation as well as generate additional revenue.
  1. Consistent and strong execution and quality control of every dish that leaves the pass.
  2. Keeping team aware and accountable for food hygiene and food safety standards.
  3. Reviewing daily stock orders and ensuring that there is no incorrect or missing product.
  4. Review current preparation strategy and implement efficiencies to keep talent costs streamlined
and at a minimum.
  1. Participate in ‘food related’ events to push our purpose further with our reputable, strong and
creative food ideas and talent within the organisation.
  1. Continuously updating processes and procedures.
Requirements for this role:
  • at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience
  • familiarity and/or experience with European cuisines
  • be able and willing to work in a busy kitchen
  • be able to follow health and safety measures at work
  • be physically fit – able to stand and work
  • have a positive can-do attitude
  • reliable and keen to turn up for work
