Senior Barista

Location: 44 Manners street, Wellington, New Zealand
Employment type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: Minimum 30 - 40 hours per week (guaranteed)
Pay rate: $27 per hour (gross)

Start date: ASAP

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based beverages consistently
  • Dial in espresso and adjust grinders throughout the trading day
  • Monitor extraction quality, milk texture, and overall coffee consistency
  • Produce professional-standard milk texturing and latte art
  • Operate commercial coffee equipment independently during peak service periods
  • Lead the coffee station during busy shifts and support smooth daily operations
  • Support and train junior baristas to maintain consistent coffee standards
  • Assist in developing and maintaining coffee preparation procedures
  • Ensure daily cleaning and routine maintenance of coffee equipment
  • Deliver professional and efficient customer service
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the coffee workstation
  • Comply with all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety requirements
  • Work closely with management and front-of-house teams
  • Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as a Barista, including experience in a senior or lead role
  • Advanced knowledge of espresso extraction, grinder calibration, and milk texturing
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in high-volume café environments
  • Proven ability to train and support other baristas
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays
A relevant hospitality qualification is an advantage but not essential.
