Position: Full-time Cook

The minimum and maximum pay rate is $24-$27/hr. before tax

The maximum hours of work per week: 40hrs

About the Company

Universal Resources NZ Limited operates sushi shops in Auckland Central, offering authentic Japanese sushi, donburi, and rice bowl dishes to our customers. We are currently seeking a Cook to join our team.

• Inspect, select, and prepare ingredients required for cooking.
• Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese-style dishes, including sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and donburi.
• Wash, slice, and prepare fish, seafood, vegetables, and other ingredients according to food safety standards.
• Cook rice to the correct texture for sushi and season it appropriately.
• Ensure all food preparation areas are clean, well-organised, and compliant with hygiene and safety standards.
• Assist with menu preparation and ensure consistency in food quality and presentation.
• Monitor ingredient stock levels and inform the manager when supplies need replenishing.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring they are cleaned and stored properly.
• Follow food safety guidelines, including temperature control and proper storage of raw ingredients.
• Support other kitchen staff and work as part of a team to ensure efficient service.
• Package takeaway sushi items and prepare orders for customers when needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification; or
• At least two years of relevant work experience.

• Experience in sushi preparation or general kitchen work
• Knowledge of safe handling of seafood and raw ingredients.
• Good knife skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
