Head Chef / Senior Chef – New Restaurant in Nelson
We’re launching a brand new Japanese-inspired restaurant in central Nelson, serving a healthy and modern twist on traditional ochazuke.
We’re looking for a hands-on, enthusiastic chef to take the lead in our kitchen from opening day. You don’t need decades of experience – just a few solid years in a professional kitchen, a positive attitude, and the drive to create great food.
Full training will be provided by our current chef before you take full charge, so you’ll have time to learn our menu, systems, and style before the official handover.
What You’ll Do:
Run day-to-day kitchen operations
Work with the team to develop exciting Japanese dishes
Ensure high standards of food quality and presentation
Keep the kitchen organised, safe, and efficient
What You’ll Bring:
A valid New Zealand work visa (no visa sponsorship available)
Several years’ experience in a professional kitchen (head or senior chef level preferred, but not essential)
Interest in Japanese cuisine
Ready to start in September or October 2025
Location: Nelson CBDSalary: Competitive, based on experience
