About the role:You thrive when you are supervising a team, keeping on top of operational challenges, and ensuring excellent customer service is achieved through the actions of your team. You will also not hesitate to get your hands dirty by working alongside your team and to do the work by yourself when needed.
You also like the fact that we offer training and development, a dynamic team environment, and this role offers variety with working both at our Auckland depot and out on-site delivering and collecting freight from residential and commercial premises.
With the assistance of the Branch Manager, the PM Operations Manager is responsible for co-ordinating the timely cross-dock of freight from our Auckland sites and the unloading and re-loading of our linehaul units coming to and from our Hub.Additionally, working closely with the AM Operations Manager to ensure cohesion between the two shifts the Auckland Transport business operates
This involves leading a team of freight operators/loaders to move freight from staging areas to loading bays and complete required unit unloads and reloads in a timely manner to meet departure deadlines. Prioritising and re-prioritising load plans when required to ensure key customer freight is moved with priority and utilising volume reporting to arrange additional resource and overflow runs as required with the Branch Manager.
Through all these daily operational tasks in a fast-paced specialised transport environment, we have an acute safety focus as a business and the PM Operations Manager is a key stakeholder in ensuring that operational safety processes and compliance requirements are adhered to on the shift as well as site security requirements
What you will bring to the role
You are comfortable with people, processes, utilising reporting to plan operationally and the ability to be adapt when the plan changes. You are comfortable reporting results, the day-to-day operational responsibilities of managing the freight load and unload of trucks and supervising the teams that do this work while actively involved in the operation.
- Able to train and communicate effectively with our people (verbal and written)
- Able to supervise the dockway team and loading of linehaul units
- Fit for work - lifting, pushing, pulling, movement of freight by hand, trolley and forklift is required.
- Safety focused - able to lead and manage health and safety in your team.
- Security aware - ensuring the building and vehicles are always secure.
- Able to use Computer systems including Microsoft Office and read reporting for decision making
- Eager to learn and develop new skills for advancement.
- A great forklift operator with a current forklift licence and operating certificate, ideally
- Experienced in the management of DG freight and its handling/loading requirements
