Mental health and addiction services in Hawkes Bay are centred around two large community teams, with a Kaupapa Maori mental health service provided by an NGO partner and satellite teams in the smaller population centres. Within the service are Child and Family, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health, Older Persons and Addiction services.
The Mental health and addiction service has a robust Peer Review Group and you will have access to CPD activities to meet ongoing registration requirements. About the Team/Service/ LocationPsychiatrists within Mental Health and Addictions teams play a critical role in assessing and treating and monitoring patients with serious mental illnesses and associated co-existing conditions.
The role requires a combination of clinical expertise, the ability to work cooperatively in teams and the ability to exercise clinical leadership. Key responsibilities include: * Clinical functions: This encompasses comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment.
- Medico-legal functions: The appointee will be required to take on the role of Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 and do formal capacity assessments to support, where appropriate, applications for orders under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act.
- Collaboration with general practitioners, other hospital medical staff and members of the multidisciplinary teams, cultural support staff, families and management to ensure equitable, safe care of patients.
