Floor Manager

New World Pioneer is a large, locally owned and operated supermarket in Palmerston North. We employ a team of 200+ team members who pride themselves on delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining high operational standards across the store.

The role

We are seeking a confident and motivated leader to join our leadership team. This is a key operational role suited to someone with supermarket experience and strong leadership skills, or someone ready to step into a leadership position. The role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the shop floor, supporting department managers, and ensuring the store operates safely, efficiently and in line with new world standards.

Key responsibilities
  • supporting the day-to-day operation of departments and assisting department managers as required
  • providing on-the-floor support, guidance and motivation to team members across the store
  • helping maintain high standards of merchandising, presentation and product availability across all departments
  • supporting and role-modelling exceptional customer service standards
  • monitoring productivity and service levels and escalating issues where appropriate
  • assisting with opening and end-of-day procedures and supporting the secure opening or close of the store when required
  • supporting recruitment, training and the ongoing development of team members
  • assisting with stock control and inventory processes
Skills and experience
  • proven leadership or supervisory experience in a busy retail environment
  • strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
  • excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, delegate and problem-solve
  • sound judgement and a well-considered decision-making approach
  • positive attitude, initiative and strong work ethic
  • physically fit and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • holds a duty manager certificate or has the ability and willingness to obtain one
  • forklift licence is preferred
  • experience using sap or similar retail systems is advantageous

Hours of work

this is a full-time position. Days and hours will be discussed at interview and will include working one weekend day.

Eligibility
