Architectural Designer/Technician

A unique opportunity has arisen to join our expanding, local design and build business, primarily servicing the west Franklin region. We are now on the lookout for an Architectural Designer/Technician to join our dynamic team, reporting to our Design Manager.
Key Responsibilities:- Produce accurate architectural documentation using ArchiCAD (preferred CAD software), ensuring consistency with Designmax Homes design standards.
- Prepare and submit full Building Consent packages, including H1 calculations, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Act as the point of contact with councils, managing building consent processes from submission to approval, aiming for approvals within the 20 working day timeframe by addressing RFI’s and council queries efficiently.
- Liaise with engineers, surveyors, truss manufacturers, and other consultants to ensure timely project coordination and input.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with the Directors and Project Managers on documentation timelines, updates, and project progress.
- File and manage documentation using Designmax Homes office systems, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and traceability.

- Proven experience as a Draughtsperson, with a portfolio of completed house plans.
- Strong Knowledge of New Zealand Building Codes & Standards, compliance pathways, and consent processes.
- Proficiency in ArchiCAD is highly preferred. Experience with other softwares (e.g., Revit) will be considered for the right candidate, provided the candidate is willing to transition to ArchiCAD.
- Proficient computer skills. Competent with emails and use of other computer functions/apps, including File Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Internet browser (e.g. Chrome), Pdf readers (Adobe or Bluebeam etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality, fully coordinated working drawings.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Effective problem-solving and coordination with consultants and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- New Zealand resident or citizen.
- Diploma/Bachelor in Architecture &/or LBP Design License &/or sufficient experience as a Draughtsperson/Architectural technician.
The ideal candidate will have the expertise to produce full sets of basic house plans (at a minimum) and be practically minded with a keen attention to detail.
