  • Kōrero mō te Tūranga As a Senior Fisheries Analyst, you'll help develop and manage New Zealand's Deepwater Fisheries, leading regulatory improvements as part of the ongoing Fisheries Reform.
Your focus will be streamlining regulations to enhance efficiency in Aotearoa's commercial fishing industry.With support of the team, you will be responsible for:Developing and presenting advice on the management of New Zealand's fisheries, with a focus on fishing regulationsYou'll also engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including Treaty partners, iwi, environmental NGOs, and the commercial fishing sectors to ensure their perspectives are reflected in our work.Interpretating and understanding fisheries data as part of preparing adviceWriting ministerial and briefing papers for Minsters on regulatory changes and efficiencies.
About You
  • Mōu You have strong communication skills, particularly writing, to prepare consultation and advice papers.

Additionally, you'll have project management skills to support a regulatory change process and be comfortable connecting with industry and eNGO stakeholders.If you're someone who has a genuine interest in the sea, oceans, and fisheries, who also hasAnalytical skills and the capacity to quickly identify and clearly define an issueExcellent communication skills (verbal, listening, and written), in particular minister and briefing papers.An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an ability to apply Māori knowledge and values to your workUnderstanding of Government processes including Parliamentary processesExperience establishing and effectively maintaining collaborative relationships with tangata whenua, stakeholders, and Government agenciesSome knowledge of fisheries management and regulatory frameworksA willingness to learn new informationYou do not need to meet all the role requirements to apply.

About the Team
  • Mō tō mātou RōpūThe Deepwater Fisheries team consists of four Senior Fisheries Analysts.
Each has a different area of deepwater fisheries they focus on
  • hoki, orange roughy, by-catch, bottom trawling, sea birds, managing the effects on the environment, and others.
We have a good mix of technical and academic minds, plus a practical hands-on approach, as needed.

You'll report to the Manager Deepwater Fisheries.
