- Kōrero mō te TūrangaWe are seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to join the Aquaculture Policy team in the Primary Sector Policy directorate within MPI's Policy & Trade business unit.The Primary Sector Policy directorate provides high-quality strategic policy advice and thought leadership to support our sectors to flourish.
We work across MPI, with wider government, the primary sectors and Māori interests to support economic prosperity, and environmental and social sustainability.As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will support a busy work programme which includes a mix of legislative, regulatory, and strategic work.
As marine aquaculture is managed under the Resource Management Act, the Aquaculture Policy team is involved in the resource management system reforms, with a focus on effective management of activities in the coastal marine area.Due to the nature of this work, some domestic travel to meet with stakeholders may be required, at times.As part of this role, you will:Develop innovative, practical, and effective policy options to support aquaculture growth;Deliver policy advice that clearly communicates complex issues to Ministers;Lead engagement with Māori, stakeholders, and government agencies to ensure the advice provided is practical and effective;Share knowledge and skills to support the team and Directorate to grow;Build and maintain effective internal and external relationships on the progress of specific issues.This is a Wellington based role, so applicants must be Wellington based or willing to relocate if successful.
About You- MōuYou will ideally be working as a Senior Policy Analyst or in a similar role, with demonstrated core policy experience.You will be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, a solution focussed approach, and a proven ability to establish and develop effective relationships.
You will be comfortable connecting with industry stakeholders and presenting information in a way that can be easily understood by various internal and external audiences.To be successful in this role, you will have:At least 2 years' experience as a Senior Policy Analyst or in a similar policy role;Experience using a range of oral, written, and visual mediums to communicate effectively in diverse situations;Critical thinking and analytical skills to solve complex policy problems;Ability to provide clear, concise, well-reasoned, articulate and practical advice;Strong self-motivation, with a demonstrated curiosity and desire to learn more;A demonstrated ability to anticipate possible challenges and prepare for or mitigate them;Flexibility and comfort working with ambiguity;Ability to build and maintain a network of relationships with stakeholders across MPI, other Government agencies, and Industry.You do not need to meet all the role requirements to apply.
