Duty Manager – Karaka Tree Motel Taupo

Karaka Tree Taupo is looking for a passionate Duty Manager to join our friendly, hands-on team at our beautiful lakefront resort.

We are seeking a proactive, responsible, and service-driven Duty Manager to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the motel during your shift and act as the primary point of contact in the absence of senior management.

You will ensure smooth operational flow, deliver exceptional guest service, and maintain compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the Resort Manager and overseeing smooth daily operations. No two days are the same!

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome guests and handle check-ins/check-outs with warmth and efficiency.
  • Ensure outstanding guest service is consistently delivered across all departments.
  • Manage Reservation and Respond to guest queries, concerns, incidents, or complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain strong presence at reception and throughout the property, especially during busy periods.
  • Staff Support and coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Maintenance teams.
  • Supervise, coach, and assist staff to achieve service and brand standards.
  • Operational Management: Handle cash, reconcile shift reports, and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Monitor staff compliance with policies, grooming standards, and workplace legislation.
  • Conduct property walk-arounds to identify maintenance or operational issues and escalate as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and team members.
  • Perform daily auditing tasks including balancing daily transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing end-of-day reports.
  • Act as the property’s decision-maker for emergencies or urgent after-hours matters.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and motel operating procedures.
  • Prepare shift reports, incident reports, and communicate updates to management.
About You
  • Previous experience in hospitality, accommodation, or supervisory roles preferred.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Reliable, organized, and confident in leading and supporting a team.
  • Comfortable on managing after-hours or overnight shifts when rostered.
