About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga As a Senior Analyst, you will be part of the Information Requests team that provides clear and accurate responses to questions about education data, including parliamentary questions, requests from the general public, media and people within the Ministry of Education.
You will manipulate, analyse and summarise Ministry of Education data about early learning and schools, from a wide range of data repositories and often with a short turnaround time using tools such as SAS, SQL and Excel. The Senior Analyst is expected to have a broader knowledge of education data and to undertake more complex requests than the Analyst.
The team works collaboratively to share knowledge and to ensure the quality and accuracy of responses. The Senior Analyst provides training, quality assurance/peer review and mentoring for other members of the team, particularly Analysts. Salary range: $100,296 - $121,490 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver.

About you | Mōhou ake To be successful in this role you will have the following experience: Strong experience with database products and in manipulating, summarising and analysing large datasets, using predominantly SAS and SQL.
Other tools and languages may be used, for example R, Python. Excel to an intermediate or advanced level. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to find and implement innovative solutions to technical problems. Computer literacy, competence in MS Word, Outlook.
You will also offer: Experience with Ministry of Education schooling and early learning data. Experience in responding to Official Information Act requests, ministerial requests and parliamentary questions. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, especially the ability to present technical information about data to non-technical people.
Customer focus, drive and initiative. Ability to navigate situations effectively and efficiently and to function under pressure or in situations which are ambiguous. Tertiary qualification in statistics, mathematics, economics, or related numeracy discipline.
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. You will be joining a friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic team of data analysts, supporting people across and outside the organisation. You will get to learn about a wide range of data: data about children in early learning and school students, administrative information collected by the Ministry, financial and staffing information and more.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake The Information Requests team is part of the Data and Insights group within the Ministry. As a group we provide high quality data and evidence to inform policy and practice. The Information Requests team is responsible for analysing and summarising education data to respond to data requests about early learning and schools, from a wide range of education data repositories.
