About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Animal Management Officer or a highly motivated individual with strong communication and customer service skills.

Becoming an Animal Management Officer is a unique and challenging role that requires a combination of skills, education, and personal attributes. If you have a love for animals, enjoy helping people, and can handle stressful situations and an often demanding high workload, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

What does the role involve?

This role involves:
  • Responding to service requests and complaints in line with legislative and bylaw requirements
  • Investigating complaints and preparing written reports
  • Undertake compliance/ enforcement actions including, impounding dogs, property inspections, infringements
  • Handling dogs and livestock
  • Educating the public on responsible pet ownership and animal safety

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Dog handling experience and knowledge of animal behaviour
  • First Aid Certificate
  • NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3) preferred.
  • Previous experience liaising with SPCA, NZ Police, DOC, community groups, and local Iwi

Mandatory Requirements:

Applicants must be able to satisfy the following pre-employment checks including:
  • Driver’s License, Credit, Ministry of Justice Criminal History, and Immigration checks.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
  • Full NZ Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Must live in the Whangarei region
  • Intermediate computer skills are essential
  • Articulate and a comprehensive understanding of both the written and spoken English language
  • Display honesty, integrity and reliability
  • Knowledge of animal management legislation and bylaws an advantage
  • Strong investigation and documentation skills
  • Confident working independently and within a team
