About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Animal Management Officer or a highly motivated individual with strong communication and customer service skills.
Becoming an Animal Management Officer is a unique and challenging role that requires a combination of skills, education, and personal attributes. What does the role involve?
This role involves:- Responding to service requests and complaints in line with legislative and bylaw requirements
- Investigating complaints and preparing written reports
- Undertake compliance/ enforcement actions including, impounding dogs, property inspections, infringements
- Handling dogs and livestock
- Educating the public on responsible pet ownership and animal safety
- Competitive Pay: $26.00+ per hour (depending on experience)

- Dog handling experience and knowledge of animal behaviour
- First Aid Certificate
- NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3) preferred.
- Previous experience liaising with SPCA, NZ Police, DOC, community groups, and local Iwi
Mandatory Requirements:
Applicants must be able to satisfy the following pre-employment checks including:- Driver’s License, Credit, Ministry of Justice Criminal History, and Immigration checks.
- Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
- Full NZ Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Must live in the Whangarei region
- Intermediate computer skills are essential
- Articulate and a comprehensive understanding of both the written and spoken English language
- Display honesty, integrity and reliability
- Knowledge of animal management legislation and bylaws an advantage
- Strong investigation and documentation skills
- Confident working independently and within a team
