Modern Transport Engineers (MTE) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Auto Electrician with a strong background in the heavy vehicle industry. This is a specialist role focused on the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of electronically controlled electric-over-hydraulic systems for our innovative range of full electric/hydraulic steering and lifting commercial trailers, supplied to both New Zealand and Australian markets.
This role suits someone who takes pride in precision, reliability and workmanship, and enjoys working on technically advanced systems from concept through to commissioning.
About the Role
You will work closely with our Lead Auto Electrician, management, engineering and finishing teams to deliver high-quality electrical systems that meet strict performance, safety and reliability standards.
Your work will be predominately focused on:
- Advanced CANBUS / MPCAN controlled systems
- Multi-circuit wiring harnesses and control enclosures
- Electronic control units, sensors and actuators
- Integration of electrical systems with hydraulic and mechanical components
Key Responsibilities
You will be able to:
- Generate and maintain full electrical schematics within a structured database
- Design, build and install multi-circuit wiring harnesses to a high standard
- Design and assemble electrical control and distribution enclosures
- Work confidently with ECUs, sensors and actuators
- Build and commission wiring systems on stationary diesel engines
- Rapidly diagnose and repair complex electrical and electronic faults
- Work unsupervised, onsite or in the field, while meeting deadlines
- Produce clear written reports on diagnostics and repairs
- Provide technical support to customers via phone and email
- Pre-plan future builds, including electrical design, suppliers and components
- Research and assess new or alternative electrical products
- Identify and report potential electrical, mechanical or engineering risks
- Communicate effectively with management, engineers, suppliers and customers
- Proven experience as an Auto Electrician in the heavy vehicle industry
- Comprehensive understanding of CANBUS and MPCAN systems
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Basic understanding of hydraulics, with limited mechanical and engineering skills
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, honest, respectful, with a can-do attitude
