Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility is based in Manukau, South Auckland and is the only womens prison in Auckland. You will join a dedicated and supportive team managing the well-being, health and safety of the women at our site. Our facility caters for those on Remand and Sentenced, at all levels of security classification.

We also house a purpose-built `mothers with babies' unit on-site. We recognise the women we manage have different needs to men and we have set an approach that will give our women the care, treatment, encouragement, counselling, skills and support required to shape better futures for themselves, their children and their families.

Utu a-Tau | Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $67,519 per annum. Once in the role there are opportunities to increase your salary as you achieve national qualifications (Level 3 at $72,197, and Level 4 at $77,713). We are also able to offer:

Mo te tunga | About the role

We have new Correction Officer intakes in June, July and September.

As a Corrections Officer you will be working in a challenging environment where you will be supported by a team of experienced colleagues. As part of your training you will learn how to keep yourself safe within a custodial environment. You will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to influence change in the lives of whanau.

Using your highly effective communication and relationship building skills, you will assist and influence the women we manage, empowering them to make better choices, take the right actions at the right times and support their individual pathways towards living offence-free lives.

Corrections Officer, He Apiha Whare Herehere will:

  • ARAHI - supervise people's daily routines
  • MANAAKI - help people engage in their rehabilitation programme and attend appointments or tangihanga.
  • WHAKAKIPAKIPA - motivate and inspire people to make positive changes
  • HAPAI - monitor and manage health, safety and behaviours.
  • MAHITAHI - work closely with whanau and other key stakeholders
  • MAHI - be able to work rostered 10- or 12-hour rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays

Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:

  • You are required to have a full New Zealand driver licence
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. In line with Immigration New Zealand requirements, we are required to give priority to candidates who already hold this right. As a result, we may not be able to support visa applications for this role.

Pre-employment checks are required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.

We provide fully paid training and you will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) which involves an initial week's induction onsite, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington then
