Mt Eden Corrections Facility (MECF) is based in the heart of the Auckland CBD and is the biggest male remand facility in housing over 1,100 of the national prison population.Not only is MECF the largest remand facility in Aotearoa, but it is also the busiest for prisoner movements.Ara Poutama Aotearoa is a name that has been gifted to us and conveys the responsibility for those in our care to reach their potential and our commitment to improving the oranga and safety of the people, whānau, and that of the communities we serve.
Mō te tūnga | About the roleAs a Corrections Officer you will be working in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues.You will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to not only change the lives of the people in Prison but also whānau by influencing change through your interactions.
You will spend much of your time working within the unit(s) supervising the people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments.
You will monitor, assess and manage behaviour and safety, help control, and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).Mōu | About you Our team come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences which all come together to support the fabric of our mahi and our unique purpose.If you have the following skills and attributes, you could make a great Corrections Officer:A positive mindset Ability to engage with whānau, iwi and hapūMotivated to make a positive impact in your communityInspired by having the opportunity to change someone's lifeBe able to work rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidaysExperience within a Kaupapa Māori or Pasifika environment, while not essential is desirableNgā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceRelevant experience within a people focussed role ie Security, Police, Military, Healthcare or similar where you have built an understanding of how to facilitate positive outcomes for others.Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:You are required to have a full New Zealand driver licenceApplicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
In line with Immigration New Zealand requirements, we are required to give priority to candidates who already hold this right.As a result, we may not be able to support visa applications for this role.Pre-employment checks are also required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.We provide fully paid training, you will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) which involves an initial week's induction onsite, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington then six weeks back at your site, before graduating and from there, the learning journey will be ongoing.
