About the RoleWe have a permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) opportunity for a Public Health Nurse, with a strong focus on working alongside kura kaupapa Māori, while also providing support to other schools, education settings and public health clinic settings across the Whanganui rohe, in line with public health service needs.Public Health Nursing is a dynamic specialty that blends nursing expertise, social sciences and public health knowledge to protect and promote wellbeing at a population level. In this role, you will work closely with kura kaupapa Māori, recognising kura as key partners in hauora. You will take a collaborative, relationship-based approach that supports and empowers kura, tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to lead lives of wellness, grounded in mātauranga Māori, tikanga and whānau-centred practice.As part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS), you will collaborate across teams and communities to address the wider determinants of health and deliver culturally responsive, equitable public health nursing services.About the Team/Service/ LocationOur Public Health Nursing team sits within the National Public Health Service (NPHS) at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora. We are a connected and values-driven team delivering locally grounded and nationally aligned public health services.This role is based in Whanganui, a community with strong cultural identity and deep connections to whenua and awa. You will work closely with kura kaupapa Māori and wider education and community partners, contributing to improved equity and wellbeing outcomes for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.About youWe are seeking a Registered Nurse who is passionate about public health, equity and working in partnership with Māori communities. You will bring:A strong commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori, tamariki, rangatahi and whānauDemonstrated competency in Mātauranga Māori and the application of Māori health models to nursing practiceExperience building and sustaining strong, respectful and reciprocal relationships with kura kaupapa Māori, recognising kura as partners in hauora and supporting shared decision-making that enhances wellbeing outcomes for tamariki, rangatahi and whānauExperience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teamsExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsA full driver's licenceDesirableExperience working in community settings, and or across intersectoral services and teamsWhole of Life Vaccinator status (or willingness to work towards this)Some proficiency in speaking and understanding Te Reo Māori, or a clear commitment to developing this capabilityExperience working in education, kura, or community settingsA competent portfolio in an approved PDRP (or equivalent), with a commitment to ongoing professional developmentThis is an opportunity to be part of a team that is shaping healthier futures through partnership, cultural responsiveness and public health leadership.
