Laboratory Technician
Road Science is New Zealand's leading designer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen-based products.
We have world-class manufacturing plants and storage facilities for bitumen, emulsions, and polymer-modified binders. Road Science has five IANZ-accredited civil engineering laboratories, and a number of project-specific mobile laboratories.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and technical-minded individual to join our team.

**Te** **kowhiringa | The Opportunity**?
Based from the Penrose Road Science Laboratory, you will provide testing and technical support services ensuring the integrity of the construction materials used by our operational teams across Auckland, Northland and Taupo Regions. This includes testing products such as asphalt, construction aggregates, and soils to ensure quality, industry standards and customer specifications are being met.This role will include laboratory, field testing and pavement investigations, giving a great variety of work and the opportunity to work in different locations.
This role requires a level of flexibility to work a rotational nightshift and weekend roster where you will be onsite with our Asphalt teams conducting the necessary testing while they complete the required work outside of normal working hours.

This is a specialised technical role, the successful candidate must have:
- At least 3 years of proven work experience in a civil engineering laboratory working with bitumen, emulsions, and polymer-modified binders including:
- Competent in aggregate and field testing to NZS4407 test methods
- Competent in soils testing to NZS4402 test methods
- Competent in Asphalt testing to ASTM test methods
- proven experience with calibration of laboratory equipment to comply with ISO/IEC 17052 requirements,
- Safe use of Nuclear Density Meter
- Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 compliance to a mechanical testing laboratory
- working towards Key Technical Personell status or have already obtained this.
- A current full Class 1 driver's licence is a requirement as some of the work is nightshift which would be required to drive between 10pm and 5am.
- This role requires a level of flexibility to work across Auckland, Northland and Taupo Regions.
Additional optional requirements:
- A relevant science or engineering tertiary qualification will be an added advantage but not required.
- A strong attention to detail with solid MS Excel & Word skills
- The ability to work as part of a team and with some leadership experience
- Excellent communication skills
