Porirua City is a great place to live, work and raise a family, with significant growth and opportunities. We're upgrading our infrastructure, connecting our city and managing how we grow. We're developing and creating a resilient, liveable city for our future generations and need skilled people like you to help make it all happen.

All about the job

This is your opportunity to make a real difference. We partner with Kainga Ora to deliver a vital programme of work revegetating Eastern Porirua, through a team of Cadets. You'll be at the forefront of restoring key sites like Bothamley Park and Cannons Creek, with over a 100,000 native plants.

You'll do this while supporting rangatahi (young people) from Eastern Porirua into meaningful career pathways in the environmental sector, who all contribute to making our community even more beautiful and vibrant.

You will be responsible for:
  • Leading and managing staff to deliver the key activities within the programme of work
  • Overseeing all daily operations within the Cadetship Programme
  • Creating, implementing and maintaining work plans, cycles and schedules
  • Planning and delivering against the budget
  • Measuring and reporting on progress against objectives and budgets

Note this is a fixed term role, until mid December 2026.

All about you

We're looking for a motivated and driven manager to lead the Eastern Porirua Cadetship Programme — a unique initiative combining environmental restoration, youth development, and community impact.

You'll need to show us that you:
  • Have great people leadership skills and can create a high performing team environment
  • have a qualification in horticulture or similar, and recent experience in this field
  • will foster meaningful and positive working relationships internally and externally
  • have excellent organisational skills along with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • have an understanding of Health and Safety legislation

What you need to do now

Come and join our hardworking Parks team and be part of our welcoming and engaging environment. Please contact Julian Emeny on 0272576835 for more information.
