James Landscaping Limited are looking for an experienced Foreman / Leading Hand to run landscaping and outdoor construction projects on site. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys leading from the front, keeping jobs on track, and delivering high-quality work safely and efficiently.

The Role

• planning work, coordinating people and resources, maintaining safety standards, and communicating with clients
• while fostering a positive, productive team culture.

• Run daily site operations: plan and sequence work, allocate tasks, and manage productivity.
• Interpret plans and scopes to ensure work meets specifications and quality standards.
• Set up and maintain safe, tidy worksites, including hazard controls.
• Coordinate materials, plant, deliveries, and subcontractors.
• Lead and maintain high-quality workmanship across landscaping and outdoor builds (retaining, paving, decking, fencing, drainage, excavation).
• Communicate clearly with clients on-site regarding progress and access.
• Identify issues or variations early and escalate as needed.
• Train, mentor, and support crew members.
• Complete basic site documentation (timesheets, checklists, photos, incident reports).

• 3+ years' experience in landscaping or outdoor construction, with proven leadership.
• Confident running jobs start-to-finish and solving problems on site.
• Strong knowledge of site safety, tools, and plant.
• Full NZ Driver Licence (Class 2+ an advantage).
• Strong client communication skills.
• Experience with excavation, levels, drainage, and base prep (preferred).
• WTR endorsement and/or machine operating experience (preferred).
