About the RoleWe are seeking a Paediatric Registrar to join our Paediatric Department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. The 2026 training year commences on 2 February.
The combined RMO's share a roster covering all acute areas including the Children's Ward, Level 2A Special Care Baby Unit and Delivery Suite. This role also offers valuable supervised experience in Outpatient Clinics.
There are opportunities for progression in both basic and advanced paediatric physician training with the RACP. This rotation is ideal for RMOs pursuing paediatrics as a career, with an excellent track record of preparing trainees successfully for RACP examinations.While many of our Registrars are paediatric trainees, the rotation also provides valuable paediatric experience for future General Practitioners, Emergency Physicians, Rural Hospital Medicine Specialists, Intensivists, and others.About the Team/Service/ LocationThe successful candidate will join a team of 5 Paediatric Registrars work as a team with 5 Senior House Officers, a Paediatric Fellow and 9 Specialist Consultants.Our department is fast-paced and offers substantial exposure to a broad range of paediatric cases.
Registrars will gain significant experience in outpatient care. Our Paediatric Team is supportive and cohesive and dedicated to the professional development of RMOs at all stages of their training. We take pride in our strong reputation for delivering high-quality care, fostering innovation, and prioritising staff development.Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400-bed secondary level public hospital in Hastings and serves a population of over 180,000 people.We offer both acute and elective care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics, obstetrics gynaecology, and more. Although we don't provide cardiothoracic and neurosurgery, we are supported by a strong regional ICU team, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.

About you- You're a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) PGY4 or above
- You are registered or eligible for general registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
