About the RoleWe are seeking an Anaesthetic Registrar to join our Anaesthetic department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital. The training year commences on 2 February and mid-year starts 3 August 2026.
Our department is accredited for two years of ANZCA training, plus an additional six months of the ICU component of the FANZCA. As a new ANZCA trainee, you'll have the opportunity to spend up to two and a half years with us, progressing through basic training and completing the ANZCA ICU requirement.Education is paramount to us, with dedicated non-clinical sessions and structured exam preparation to ensure your professional growth.
About the Team/Service/ LocationThe successful candidate would join a team of 11 Registrars and around 30 Specialists to enhance the Anaesthetic department according to their training and experience and would also participate in the out-of-hours service.
Our Anaesthetic department is equipped with eight operating theatres, including two dedicated acute facilities. We extend our services to various medical procedures, ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient care by providing services for radiology, interventional gastroenterology (ERCP, selected upper and lower GI scopes), interventional vascular procedures, as well as a lithotripsy bus, and ophthalmological and ENT and dental procedures at our neighbouring facility.We also provide an intrapartum epidural service for delivery suite which has around 2000 deliveries per annum, as well as an hospital wide acute pain service and anaesthetic pre-admission clinic.
Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400-bed secondary level public hospital in Hastings, serving a population of over 180,000 people. We offer both acute and elective care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics, obstetrics gynaecology, and more.Although we don't provide cardiothoracic and neurosurgery, we are supported by a strong regional ICU team, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.

About you- You are a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) PGY3 or above
- You are registered or eligible for general registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
