Cook Assistant – Gatehouse Café (Templeton, Christchurch)

Gatehouse Café is a welcoming, community-focused café located in Templeton, Christchurch. We’re passionate about fresh food, great coffee, and creating a warm space for our customers. We are looking for a reliable and motivated Cook Assistant who enjoys working with food, takes pride in presentation, and works well in a busy café environment.

About the Role

Permanent part-time position – approximately 20 - 25 hours per week
Rostered shifts include weekends
Daytime hours only, open 7 days a week (no nights):
Weekdays: 7am–3pm
Weekends: 8am–2pm

Hands-on kitchen role within a small, supportive team

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and present cabinet food, brunch dishes, and daily menu items
Assist with baking and general kitchen preparation
Maintain food quality, portion consistency, and presentation standards
Follow food safety, hygiene, and cleaning procedures
Support smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods

Assist with stock rotation and prep to minimise waste

What We’re Looking For

Minimum 1 year kitchen or café cooking experience
Knowledge of basic cooking, baking, and consistent food preparation
Reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently under pressure
Positive, team-focused attitude with good communication skills
Able to follow systems, recipes, and café standards
Someone reliable who can commit to regular weekly shifts.
Physically able to safely lift and carry items up to 20kg independently
Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand
