THE OPPORTUNITY
If you enjoy a role with variation, on a farm with scope, then Haycocks Station with its three species on farm is ideal for you. As a Shepherd General, you’ll have a huge amount of stock work variety throughout the year, combined with the other various general farming duties.
Haycocks utilises a range of technology and has excellent farm equipment to ensure efficiency, safety, ease and accuracy. Join our collaborative team of 5-6, who work closely together over the farm and are all extremely proud of their work.
You’ll learn a wide range of skills with potential for career progression not only through the station but within the wider Pamu business.
THE FARM
Haycocks is a classic southern station. The farm is in the Mavora Valley located 40 minutes from Te Anau and 1.5 hours from both Queenstown and Invercargill.
It is iconic and consists of 6500ha of prime Southland country which runs 40,000 S/U consisting of 10,000 ewes, 1600 calving cows and 5000 fawning Hinds.
The surrounding country is a mix of medium to steep hill country and highly productive flats providing a real contrast.
The general farm system has a breeding base with high quality store stock exiting to finishing farms, however an ever-increasing proportion is currently being finished within the farm gates.
Haycocks is a well-developed asset that features excellent yards, housing, offices, general infrastructure and has a 37km public road from one end to the other that acts as our main laneway.

The Pamu community in Te Anau is strong and offer several events throughout the year. We have a young farmers club available, and sports teams etc… in Mossburn and Te Anau.
