About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Maori Health Promoter to join the National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) team at MidCentral.The NBSP is offered to eligible people aged 60-74 with no bowel symptoms, and from March 2026, eligibility will extend to those aged 58-74.The programme covers Palmerston North, Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua, and Otaki.
This role is pivotal in supporting increased participation and reducing inequities in coverage for priority populations - particularly Maori, Pasifika, and those living in areas of high deprivation (deciles 9 and 10).
About the Role
As Maori Health Promoter, you will:
- Work closely with the NBSP team to build and maintain strong relationships with Iwi, Maori health providers, and Pacific communities.
- Deliver a co-ordinated programme of promotion, engagement, participation, and retention of eligible Maori and Pasifika into the NBSP.
- Be part of a multidisciplinary team supported by Te Uru Matai Matengau (Cancer, Screening, Treatment and Support Cluster) and Pae Ora Paiaka Whaiora (Maori Health Directorate).
- Be based at Breast Screening Coast to Coast (BSCC).
- Hours: Flexible, Monday-Friday, with some weekend work required
- Travel: Required within the MidCentral rohe (overnight visits possible but unlikely)
About you
You're passionate about improving health outcomes for Maori and Pasifika communities. You bring:
- Experience in health promotion, public health or primary care
- Strong relationship‑building skills with iwi, Maori providers and Pacific communities
- Cultural competence and confidence engaging with whanau
- Great communication and organisational skills
- Flexibility to travel across the MidCentral rohe
You're motivated, collaborative, and ready to inspire participation in the National Bowel Screening Programme.
