The Role

The Kawerau District Council has an opportunity for a Waterworks Operator, or Waterworks Assistant, or Waterworks Trainee to join our Three Waters Team. This is a permanent full time position, which reports to the Three Waters Team Leader.

Responsibilities include supporting the operations of the various water supply and wastewater treatment plants, and reticulation, and assisting in the maintenance of storm water systems. Record keeping of daily sampling, and data entry are a part of this role, so knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.

The hours of work will be from 7.30am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday and include stand-by duties on a rotating roster.

Our Expectations

Ideally, the successful candidate will have completed an NZ Apprenticeship in Water Treatment Level 4, and have five years of applicable experience or equivalent. However, lesser-qualified candidates may be appointed at the Assistant or Trainee level with the expectation of completing the apprenticeship in-house.

If you are physically fit and have applicable experience and qualifications, or a desire to learn and develop into a Waterworks Operator, and if you are eligible to work in NZ, please apply!

What Council Offers:

Our culture is built on trust and respect. Our vision is to create a resilient and sustainable Kawerau district that can meet the needs of the future, and our water infrastructure and team are an integral part of that.

We offer a competitive salary, and flexible working arrangements (where possible) to enable work-life balance in recognition of today’s working environment.

Centrally located in the heart of the Bay of Plenty at the feet of Putauaki and alongside the pristine Tarawera river, Kawerau is renowned for its great sense of community, rich multi-cultural heritage, beautiful tree-lined streets, parks and reserves.

Within easy reach of lakes, beaches, forests, snow, thermal regions and cities, it is a great base for both the adventure seeker and those who enjoy natural surroundings at a quieter pace.

Kawerau District Council has an active Drug and Alcohol Policy. Candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol testing, and Ministry of Justice vetting.
