About the role
The Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAID) provides comprehensive assessment and treatment programmes in a range of general and specialist inpatient and community services for people with severe mental health disorders within the Otago region.Services range from secure inpatient facilities to community-based community mental health centres. Regional services are provided for inpatient forensic services and inpatient intellectual disability services covering Southland.
In this position, you will effectively contribute to the smooth running of the Director of Area Mental Health Services (DAMHS) by providing an efficient and timely administrative support function that is responsive and flexible to the changing needs of the service.
This position carries a varied workload while working to strict deadlines.
We are looking for someone who can handle having several things on the go at once including but not limited to:
- Processing of legal documentation
- Complete mandatory reports and data
- Attending court hearings as required
- Support the role and responsibilities of Duly Authorised Officers (DAO) and Mental Health Staff
- Liaise with health professionals, lawyers and court on a regular basis to ensure standards of care and treatment for clients is well maintained, including legal processes
- Ensure the Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) completes the legal requirements of required documentation
- Other tasks - running reports, meetings, sorting correspondence and helping your colleagues with their workloads

- Previous experience in a busy administration role
- Be good at multitasking, and work well under pressure
- Excellent word processing and data entry skills, with a strong eye for detail
- A flexible approach with the ability to successfully prioritise your workload
- Respectful nature handling confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
