ECE Cook (BestStart FlatBush)
We are looking for a passionate and caring Centre Cook to join our team. This is a key role within our centre, supporting children's health and wellbeing through nutritious, thoughtfully prepared meals. You will work Monday to Friday for 30–32.5 hours per week, preparing fresh, age-appropriate meals each day, including morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.
In this role, you will plan and prepare menus that promote healthy eating using whole foods, while ensuring dietary, allergy, and cultural requirements are met. You'll need to be well organised, energetic, and confident managing your time in a busy environment, while maintaining high standards of food safety and kitchen hygiene.Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll work closely with the teaching team to support the daily needs of the centre and contribute positively to our team culture.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare healthy meals and snacks for children, following Ministry and center guidelines.
- Cater for individual dietary needs, allergies and cultural preferences.
- Keep the kitchen clean, hygienic and well-organized in line with food safety standards.
- Order and manager food supplies within budget.
- Work collaboratively to support positive and inclusive environment.
Our ideal candidate:
- Have an approachable positive attitude, and a passion for cooking
- Show initiative to make the kitchen your own
- Experience in a commercial kitchen or early learning setting (preferred, but not essential, training will be provided).
- Great time management skill
- Demonstrate attention to detail, particularly regarding food safety and hygiene practices.
- Reliable, a team player, and able to work independently.
