The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Catchment Group Coordinator based in Whanganui to support and grow three catchment groups in the lower region. This is a contractor role reporting to the General Manager and WRCC Committee.
As the Lower Region Coordinator, you will: Facilitate and support three local catchment groups to develop visions, goals, and action plans.
Support the formation of new groups as interest arises.Coordinate workshops, field days, and school events to build knowledge and community resilience, based on the goals of each group.
Assisting farming catchment members with understanding and preparing for changes in regulatory requirements.
Support implementation of on-farm mitigation projects and showcase sites.
Build strong relationships with farmers, iwi/hapu, schools, industry, and government stakeholders.
Support the delivery of communications including newsletters, social media updates, and community engagement.
Report monthly against agreed management plans and KPIs.
Oversee water quality monitoring and reporting, ensuring science and data inform catchment planning.
Develop co-funding partnerships and secure ongoing support for projects, research, education, and events.
Skills & Attributes
We’re looking for someone who is: Experienced in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and community facilitation.
Knowledgeable about environmental restoration, freshwater science, or sustainable farming.Skilled in communication – able to translate complex information into clear, practical messages.
Organised, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities.
Comfortable working independently while promoting WRCC’s values and vision.
Contract DetailsContract type: Independent contractor
Duration: Until 30 June 2026 (with potential extension subject to funding)
Rate: $60 per hour
Hours: 12 hrs /week, varying seasonally and by project demand
Location: Based in Whanganui, covering three catchment groups in the lower region
