Community Support Worker - Residential**
Permanent Part-time - 32 hours per week
$23.50 - $29.10 per hour
Hutt Valley location
At Spectrum Care, we provide support for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives.
You will get to work with a wide variety and range of people from different backgrounds and with varying support needs. As a Permanent Reliever, you will have the opportunity to work from multiple residential sites, depending on the staffing needs of the houses.
People with an intellectual disability want the same things as you and I. They just want someone to show them the way, not do it for them but to teach them. Support Workers are not careers. If you are observant, have real listening skills and appreciate diversity then you are off to a good start.We want people that can think on their feet, have energy to get out and about. People that are willing to get in a pool, not watch from the sides. You will need to adapt your communication style to fit our people's needs and be ready for a variety of opinions.

- Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot
- Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations
- Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
- Good at explaining and negotiating
- Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
- Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
- An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work
- Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary
- Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
- A full New Zealand driver's license (essential)
- Able to pass a NZ police check
- The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
- Have worked in the care workforce for 24 months or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
- A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
