We welcome one and all to join us at the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.Mō tēnei tūranga | About the roleSitting within NZQA's External Assessment group, this Team Leader role is responsible for leading a dedicated team of professionals to produce high-quality, credible and valid assessments for both NCEA and NZ Scholarship.

The expertise and work of your team will ensure that we offer valid and reliable national assessment and that the principles of student-centric assessment are applied and upheld.Under your leadership, your team will support and lead the entirety of the external assessment process from setting, preparing and managing the marking of external assessments.While the delivery of work from your team is critical, you'll also play a key role in modelling and championing the culture, values and leadership behaviours of NZQA.

You'll be able to communicate effectively with your peers and leaders from across a wider cohort to share ideas, agree priorities, develop strategy, escalate issues and build and maintain effective working relationships.Mōu | Who you areThis role offers the chance to deliver work that has tangible and meaningful impact for learners in New Zealand now and into the future.

To succeed in this role, it is essential that you demonstrate a strong and proven ability to learn new concepts, systems, processes and ways of working quickly and identify potential opportunities for improvement. Due to the nature of our work, it's critical that you be comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity and demonstrate the confidence and leadership to support and guide your team forwards through this.Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga | What you'll bring to the role:An understanding of the NZ education system, ideally with a particular understanding of the principles of student-centric assessment and the principles of NCEA and NZ ScholarshipStrong, well demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, connect with and engage a diverse team with busy portfoliosA positive, adaptive and solution-focused approach to challenges, ambiguity and changeDemonstrated ability to manage a portfolio effectively across a wider team/group, navigate multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines consistentlyExcellent communication skills that you can seamlessly tailor to be appropriate for the audience and situationHigh level of professionalism, with a strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and integrityIt would also be helpful (but not essential) if you joined us with:Previous experience across curriculum development, assessment writing or moderation.
