Key Responsibilities
As aMachinery Specialistbased at our head office in Pongakawa, you’ll play a vital role in supporting orchard operations. Our machinery team operatesMonday through Sunday, working approximatelyfive 9-hour days each week, depending on weather conditions.In this role, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of tasks related to machinery operation, servicing, and support, helping ensure the orchard runs efficiently and safely.
- Mowing, mulching, operating forklifts, truck driving, weed spraying and atom sprayers (for selected operators).
- Transporting equipment and materials across orchards.
- Perform daily pre-start checks, assist with preventative maintenance, and clean equipment during shutdowns
- Helping the orchard team when needed in busy times.
- Operate machinery safely and responsibly, with an understanding of its capabilities and performance efficiency, in accordance with the operator’s manual.
- Carry out timely preventative maintenance to keep machinery running smoothly, prevent costly breakdowns, and support uninterrupted orchard operations.
- Accurately recording data for operational records in a timely and tidy manner.
- Prioritise and plan workload in conjunction with internal requests and planned schedules.
About you
You’re a proactive, hands-on team member with a genuine interest in orchard operations and machinery. You bring practical experience and a strong work ethic.- 1–3 years’ experience operating farm vehicles such as tractors and related attachments
- Kiwifruit orchard experience – an advantage but not essential
- The initiative to understand orchard needs and respond accordingly
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues
- A Forklift Operator Licence – preferred but not required
- A willingness to work with agrichemicals (full training and PPE provided)
- Your own vehicle, a current driver’s licence, and confidence driving a manual
